Matthias Hoekman
Twan is a London based cinematographer and NFTS graduate from the Netherlands. His work is focussed on narrative fiction, documentaries and art films inspiring social change.
Apart from film Twan expresses himself through piano playing, analogue portrait photography, lighting design, human rights & climate activism and he helps to run a meditation community in central London with the purpose of creating a safe space for Londoners to truly rest and take care of them selves. Through his films, he enjoys lensing stories that let us emphasise with the human condition in all it’s endless forms and stories, and he hopes to aid in creating a more compassionate society.
Twan’s work has been screened at Oscar and BAFTA qualifying festivals world-wide. The Documentary ‘The Daydreamers’ from director Thomas Renckens was nominated for a Student Grierson Awards in 2021, and won best film at the Boston Documentary Film Festival, Ghent Viewpoint Documentary Festival and Rhode Island Film Festival, amongst others. He is currently working on a continuation of the same film into a feature length documentary that is being supported by The Netherlands Film Fund.
In 2021 he shot is first narrative feature film ‘Human Nature’ in Norway, which was released in 2022 and is now being submitted to festivals.
His animation film ‘Something Borrowed’ (2020) which he lensed digitally was shortlisted for a Student BAFTA in 2021. The film also won best animation film at over 10 festivals, including RIFF 2020, LAFF 2021, The Irish and Paris Animation Awards.
